After finishing the logo for Hot Stuff about a year ago, I left the brand at a graphic and merely envisioned how it would be applied to packaging or signage. This September has been an opportunity for me to catch up and evolve some of the clients in the past year that I’ve had to put to the wayside to keep the momentum up. So far, I’ve been able to finalize a logo and business cards for Lindsey Warford, finalize a logo for Ambrosia and unite it with its sibling client Satyr in a proposal for fragrance packaging, completed the logo and label packaging for the wine Grass Fire, and now I’m happy to present a full complement of packaging for Hot Stuff. All of these brands were ideas I’ve had that I felt could really breathe a bit more in their identity. It is difficult to believe that a brand is only a logo. Seeing a distinctive character come through in multiple facets is important to help solidify what it means to experience a brand. From a logo to packaging, from signage to collateral, and even extensions that are a bit out of reach for me (at least on a monthly basis) like multi-media promotionals, websites, advertising, etc. It’s a great opportunity therefore to take a few weeks and return to brands that were merely graphics and give them more of a voice.
Hot Stuff was a brand close to my heart. It was the first client idea I had for Monthly Brand, and it was something so genuine and simple. It’s a mom and pop shop that makes mustard. Mustard that rocks. Mustard that wanted to look like it tastes: spicy and sassy. Returning to it has been a pleasure as I can finally see through at least the packaging and some of the signage for the brand. I now present the products of that work. I’m happy with the connectivity between rock n’ roll and tangy sauce here. They may at first seem disparate, but hopefully all the elements blend together like a screeching solo weaves in and out of a power chord chorus. I’m happy to finally put this brand to bed with a bit more extension, and as always, would love to hear any feedback on the design. Otherwise, happy anniversary, Monthly Brand.
